Cumberland Valley gets additional teacher, aide for ESL students
A teacher and teacher aide who are trained to teach English to students whose first language is not English will join the staff of the Cumberland Valley School District.
The school board approved spending $38,000 on salaries and benefits for the rest of the year for the positions.
The English-as-a-second-language ESL aide is expected to work at Hampden Elementary School, where parents have complained about a staff shortage. A special meeting to address parents’ concerns will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hampden.
The new ESL teacher will work with both elementary and high school students, district officials said.
