Northwest Arkansas’ Program to offer ESL, GED learning from a distance
Two programs offered at Northwest Arkansas Community College’s Adult Education Center will soon be available through distance learning because of a statewide pilot program.
The Adult Education Program is one of 12 across Arkansas selected to participate in a distance-learning pilot project, director Ben Aldama said recently.
“Adults will have the opportunity to participate in GED and ESL learning without attending a regularly scheduled class,” he said.
The programs will be offered through what is called a hybrid system - it is offered mostly online, but there is a required face-to-face component, said Connie Cox, GED instructor. The students of either program will be required to come to the center to take tests, and they will be required to keep at least weekly contact with the instructor.
