Position Description
Reporting to the Dean of the Bagwell College of Education, the chair serves as the academic and administrative leader of the Department of Inclusive Education and is the department representative in all official communications. The chair is expected to collaborate with faculty across the college and with other campus units, school districts, and external agencies. Typically, the chair teaches two classes per year. The position is a 12-month appointment, and the salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications
· Doctorate in TESOL, Special Education, or a closely related field.
· Credentials appropriate to hold academic rank of associate professor or professor at Kennesaw State University. Please refer to department, college, and university promotion and tenure guidelines at: http://www.kennesaw.edu/education/facultytenture.html.
· Record of progressively more responsible leadership positions in higher education.
· Sustained record of excellence in teaching and scholarship, ability to support 21st century learning through technology and innovative practice, and a desire to mentor strong leaders.
· Credentials to teach courses in the Department of Inclusive Education.
· Ability to work with diverse faculty, students, and staff to prepare teachers and leaders for diverse PK-12 classrooms.
· Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
· Teaching experience in PK-12 schools.
· Experience developing and evaluating innovative programs in teaching and learning.
· Experience with accreditation.
Preferred Qualifications
· Prior experience as a department chair.
· PK-12 teaching experience and/or graduate coursework in the other discipline (e.g., if doctorate is Special Education, then teaching or graduate coursework in TESOL or related field, and visa versa).
· Experience in managing budgets, supervising personnel, and scheduling classes.
· Experience with strategic planning, curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation.
· Expertise in building and maintaining collaborative relationships and in sustaining effective communities of practice among diverse faculty.
· Experience with grant procurement.
· Three years of teaching experience in PK-12 schools.
