TEACHER WANTED: Nice Apt, Pyeongchon (Seoul), START February 1st

By:eslstarter <Send E-Mail>
Date: 23 November 2008
We have a great position available in Pyeongchon, close to Seoul. This is a very lively area with lots of hagwons and so a large and welcoming foreign community. There are many international restaurants and bars in Pyeongchon making it a great place to meet friends and spend a year. Pyeongchon Station is located on Seoul subway line 4 and it takes around 30 minutes to reach Gangnam from here.

For more on Pyeongchon, visit:

- 2.3 million won/month base pay (more with experience/certification)
- 120 hours/month (the hours will be 10-12, 1-6.30, M-F, beginning in February)
- 12-Month contract with standard benefits for both parties (50/50 medical insurance, housing, round-trip airfare, all Korean holidays off, one-month salary bonus upon contract completion)
- Two one-work week vacations (one late summer, one winter)
- This school teaches English immersion kindergarten in the morning (i.e. subjects include phonics, science, geography, song, “fun time,” park days on Wednesdays, etc.), and early elementary in the afternoon

Two of the best attributes of our director is that she sticks to the contract very well, and always pays on time – if not the day before when payday falls on a weekend or holiday. Previous teachers have stayed for up to three years. One perk of the job is that in addition to normal short breaks, there is currently a system in which you get either a one or one and-a-half-hour break at some point during the week, and sometimes two such breaks. There is almost never any lesson-planning/administrative work outside of the working day.

The apartment is spacious, furnished, and has a queen-size bed, A/C, large, modern television with basic cable (upgradable), high-speed internet connection, washing machine and two (slightly-smaller than American-size) refrigerators. The apartment and school are located in the “Pyeongchon Food Court” (they meant to say “restaurant district” on the signs), so it is only a five-minute walk from your door to the school and surrounded by tons of good Korean food. This area has a lot of foreign teachers so you’ll see many walking around and also many of the local shopkeepers/restaurant workers speak some English.

This is a nice area because it is well connected to greater Seoul (30-40 minutes to downtown), but is still far enough away to have better air-quality, local hiking, two large parks within five-minute walking-distance, good grocery shopping and is close to downtown Anyang (Pyeongchon is part of Anyang City).

We can offer excellent references for the school from the 5 teachers we have previously placed there; Katy, Dan, Rhamen, John, and Elaine!

“Claire and Phil (Eslstarter) placed me at a wonderful little school in Korea.” Katy, previous teacher.

“My time here has been fulfilling and enjoyable.” Dan, previous teacher.
